8 Facts About Engoo for Our 8th Anniversary
Did you know that our international brand, Engoo, launched this month eight years ago? About a year after starting our operations in Japan as DMM Eikaiwa, we expanded to other markets under the name of Engoo.
To celebrate eight years of Engoo, here are eight fun facts about us, and you, our tutors!
#1 A century of lessons are conducted every two months
Collectively, Engoo tutors conduct over a million lessons each month, translating to over a century of lesson time every two months!
A huge shout out to tutors like yourself for making this possible!
#2 Our tutor base has grown by over 80 times
When our business first started, we had just 119 tutors. Since then, our tutoring community has grown by 84 times, reaching over 10,000 active tutors last year.
If you know anyone who’d like to join us, send them our way! You’ll get a referral bonus for every successful applicant. For more information, see the "Referral Incentives" section here.
#3 Our most popular lesson slot is 10:00-10:25 pm
According to booking data, 10:00 pm Japan Standard Time is when our lessons are most in-demand. Given how busy our students are, it makes sense that many of them only have time for themselves later in the evening.
#4 Japan is home to our 5th largest group of tutors
It may come as a surprise that an English teaching platform has so many tutors from Japan. But that's because we have recruited a good number of bilingual tutors there who teach Japanese in addition to English. Here are the top five countries our tutors represent:
#5 Engoo tutors represent 3/4 of all countries in the world
Did you know that students love our diversity? We're honored to have tutors join us from 147 different countries — about three-quarters of all the countries in the world.
#6 Engoo tutors are 30 years old on average
Over half of you are in your twenties while close to a third are in your thirties, with the average age coming out to 30.
Here's the age breakdown:
- 16-19 – 2%
- 20s – 54%
- 30s – 31%
- 40s – 9%
- 50s – 3%
- 60s – 0.9%
- 70s – 0.1%
#7 Our most popular materials are focused on speaking
Our most popular materials are ones that focus on speaking: Daily News comes first, followed by Conversation and Conversation Topics. After all, most students book our lessons because they need speaking practice!
Fourth place is Grammar, which reflects our students’ desire to speak grammatically, and in fifth comes English for Kids.
#8 We’ve published 7,300+ Daily News Articles to date
Daily News is our most popular material, and as of today, we've published a little over 7,300 articles. This means that if you taught a Daily News lesson a day, it would take more than 20 years to finish all of them – and that’s not counting the 90+ new articles that come out each month!
👋 That’s it for now
